Even though we’re currently experiencing a “false spring” in the Midwest, I’m not putting away my winter office outfits just yet! The cold weather will be back before we know it, so I’m going to keep enjoying the extra warmth of my favorite sweaters, long skirts, and layering pieces.

Winter work outfits are some of my favorite professional looks as they’re the perfect way to mix and match textures, patterns, and styles. Read on for 13 winter outfits to ace a stylish look for your work setting – whether that’s at home or in the office.

1. lady jacket cardigan + navy sweater pants + leopard flats

Playing with color is the perfect way to add interest to your winter office outfits. Red and navy are a great pairing for cold weather as they’re deep and saturated – much like jewel tones, which are always especially popular at this time of year.

A lady jacket style cardigan is a classic piece and the perfect way to start this look. Next, these navy sweater pants are comfortable and chic, pulling the navy back in the details on the cardigan. Choose leopard print flats for a fun way to add a new pattern to the outfit, and finish the look with gold double hoop earrings.

2. satin blazer + white button down + tweed skirt + knee-high boots

Mixing fabric textures is the perfect way to showcase your personal style in winter outfits, as you have more layers to work with than warm weather looks. For this look, mix a tweed patterned skirt with a black satin blazer. Add a third texture with the black leather knee-high boots.

Keep your jewelry simple and chic with gold and silver studs, with a pair of tights for extra warmth during the cold weather months.

3. knit turtleneck + pleated midi skirt + knee-high boots

When in doubt, monochromatic looks are a great way to pull together a look that’s simultaneously effortless and chic. Even if the shades don’t match exactly, choosing shades of tan and cream will still create a cohesive look that brings some warmth to your winter office outfits.

Start this look with an oversized turtleneck. Add a pleated midi skirt for visual interest, paired with tall leather boots. If you want to add a little pop of color, try doing so with your jewelry – the moss green tones in this cocktail ring and the gold earrings are a subtle but fun way to bring in a new shade.

4. striped sweater + wide-legged jeans + ankle boots

If your work setting is a little more casual when it comes to dress code, you might try incorporating wide-legged jeans into your winter wardrobe. If you do wear denim to the office, choose a pair with no holes or rips. Darker denim is also typically regarded as slightly more elevated, although this could depend on the exact pair of jeans.

Try the “sandwich method” to pull this look together. The sandwich method is simple: match your shoes to your top to create a cohesive style that feels satisfying to the eye. A chunky sweater like this one is perfect for colder weather, which you can pair with black ankle boots. A leather tote with unique stitching and a gold watch complete the outfit.

5. button-down shirt dress + bow heels + gold earrings

This button-down shirt dress is as flattering as it is chic, thanks to the vertical black and white stripes. The bow on this style is also a great feature, to help add shape to the long dress. Plus, the cuffed sleeves are a fun detail to add interest to this versatile piece!

Patent leather heels are the perfect addition, with a playful bow on the toe. A brown and black leather tote will hold your laptop and workplace essentials, and gold studs complete the look.

6. striped cardigan + knit pants + cap-t0ed ballet flats

Black and white will never go out of style, and it’s the perfect color theory to base your winter work outfits around. Try starting your look with another variation of the lady jacket cardigan with black and white stripes. It will add a touch of elegance to any outfit!

Next, switch out your favorite pair of black trousers with a pair of white sweater pants. Also, if you work from home and need outfits that are as comfortable as they are stylish, these pants are just what you need. Finish the look with a cap-toed pair of ballet flats and a black shopper bag.

7. mini dress + camel coat + slingback heels

An all-black outfit is a polished look when it comes to workwear – especially in the wintertime. For this style, start with a knit dress with a polo collar. The button detail elevates this mini dress and prevents it from being too casual for the workplace. Knit dresses are a great idea for colder months as the fabric provides extra warmth.

Add a pair of sheer tights, sling-back heels, and a camel belted coat to complete one of your new favorite winter work outfits.

8. midi dress + mixed metal watch + Mary Janes

Mornings are hard enough in the winter, and if I need to pick out what to wear quickly, grabbing a midi dress is always my go-to. This is another variation of the knit dress but provides extra length if you prefer a longer skirt, or your workplace calls for a stricter dress code. The black stitching provides additional visual interest to this piece, which is ready to grab and go on busy mornings.

Add a wool-blend coat to keep warm from winter weather. Finish the look with black Mary Jane flats, and a mixed metal watch.

9. button-front dress + duster cardigan + flat

If you love the look of a sweater dress, this button-front midi dress is a great alternative. The vertical ribbing on the dress offers a slimming effect, as do the buttons running down the length of the piece.

For those who live in especially cold climates, a longline cardigan like this duster style will complement the fit of the dress. Add a pair of comfortable flats and simple gold earrings for a polished look perfect for the home or office.

10. black turtleneck + teddy coat + patterned midi skirt

One of my most worn pieces in the wintertime is a black turtleneck. It’s definitely the MVP in my capsule wardrobe collection because of how easy it is to pair with other pieces to create winter office outfits.

This turtleneck top is a great choice to pair with a statement piece, like this beautifully patterned midi skirt. Mary Jane heels complement the vintage feel of the skirt pattern, and a cream shopper bag creates the perfect balance in the color scheme. A teddy pair coat is a cozy piece you need to finish things off.

If you prefer spring’s cheery tones and bright colors, this look is for you. Pair a sleek pair of satin trousers in muted pink with a white ruffle top for a feminine yet classy outfit.

Pearl earrings are the perfect accessory for this playful look. A cream pair of loafers with a gold buckle detail complete the outfit.

12. sweater vest + cream turtleneck + plaid midi skirt

This next look embodies the “light academia aesthetic”. If you like to incorporate aesthetic trends into your looks, the light academia look calls to mind a bookish, modern Victorian vibe with a twist. Patterns like this plaid skirt, the sweater vest, and lighter, neutral colors are how you accomplish this particular vibe.

Leather accents like these mule slides and a crossbody bag with gold accents complete the look. Whether you work in an office or a library, this is an effortlessly cool, nostalgic style.

13. leopard skirt + three-quarter zip pullover + Mary Jane flats

winter office outfits

If you follow trends, then you’ll know that leopard print is all over this season. However, at MCO, we believe this print is one that never goes out of style! Patterns like leopard print and stripes are classic ones that can operate as a neutral in your looks, or double as a statement piece.

Pair this leopard midi skirt with a three-quarter zip pullover to create a balance between the elevated look of the skirt and the more casual top. Add leather accents like the bucket bag in deep brown with a black patent Mary Jane to pull out colors from your skirt, and you have a chic look that is as timeless as it is trendy.
